Joydeep likely to leave jail today

Bhubaneswar, Aug 11: After 20
days in prison, on charges of fraud, Tripura cadre Odia IPS officer Joydeep
Nayak is likely to leave jail today after being granted bail by the Orissa High
Court in the case against him. 

On July 9, a single
judge bench headed by Justice Shatrughna Pujahari sanctioned bail to Nayak who
has been accused in the Rs 88 lakh computer training misappropriation case and
also has asked him to deposit his passport with the Special (Vigilance) Court
in Cuttack. He was also asked to go on bail after furnishing bail bond of Rs 1
lakh with two solvent sureties and a property bond of Rs 50,000.

Nayak was arrested by
the State Vigilance on July 23 from Ghaziabad in Uttar Pradesh. Nayak, on an
inter-cadre deputation between 2011 and 2016 in Odisha and while working as IG
of Human Rights Protection Cell (HRPC), had allegedly embezzled Rs 88 lakh
meant for computer skill development of SC and ST students. Barring Nayak, four
others, including a senior OPS officer, are also arrested in the case.

Nayak is now lodged at
the Choudwar Jail.
