Intelligent traffic signal control system in Smart City next year

Dec 21: Gurgaon-based company Envoys Electronics Pvt. Ltd. has been selected to
undertake the IT– enabled management of 58 traffic signals, 14 pelican
crossing and blinkers at 5 locations. The company won the bid at Rs 14.7 crore,
including supply, installation and the maintenance cost. The project will be
commissioned within a period of nine months.
With
this, Bhubaneswar has taken its first step towards the implementation of Smart
City Proposal with Bhubaneswar Smart City Limited (BSCL) successfully
completing the tender process for supply and installation of Adaptive Traffic
Signal Control System with comprehensive maintenance for a period of seven
years.
Power
needed to run the traffic signals will be trapped through solar panels. The
project will have latest technology in traffic engineering named Composite
Signal Control Strategy (CoSiCoSt) developed by C-DAC (Centre for Development
of Advanced Computing), a research and development organization under the
Department of Electronics and Information Technology, Government of India. This
latest technology will improve travel time reliability by progressively moving
vehicles through intersections, ensure reduction in congestion by creating
smoother flow across intersections; distribution of green phase time according
to equitably for all approaches, faster response to traffic conditions and emergencies.
Support
predicting traffic volumes and adjust signal timings to match these volumes.
The
system will further be developed with more additions in the form of Red Light
Violation Detection, Automatic Number Plate Recognition System, Variable Message
Signs, Surveillance Camera for real time emergency and incident management.
The
Adaptive Traffic Signal Control System being implemented in the city shall be
integrated with other smart city modules at a Central Command Centre and
provide real-time decision support for achieving the smart city vision. It will
be part of the Intelligent City Operations and Management Centre, under the Pan
City Proposal of the Smart City.
Pelican
signals would come up at the BJB College, Ice Factory Road, VITS, Ashok Nagar Bus
Stop, Master Canteen, Unit X Road,  RD
College, Keshari Bus Stop, Press Club Road, Eest Coast Railway HQ, KIIT School,
Satabdi Bus Stop and Steward School. 
Similarly,
blinkers would come up at ISKCON Temple Underpass, Hanspal Chowk, Info Valley
Junction, Palasuni Chowk and Puri NH By-Pass.
