Bureaucrats hone social media skills to streamline public service delivery

Bhubaneswar, July 25: As part of its efforts to improve
delivery of public services by using social media, the State Government in
association with Facebook on Tuesday organised a workshop for the bureaucrats
and senior Government officials at the State Secretariat here.
Inaugurating the workshop, Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik said
that social media is a vital medium to galvanise the 3Ts- Technology, Teamwork
and Transparency-enunciated by his Government for citizen-centric governance.
“I urge you all to be proactive in leveraging the power of
social media for the welfare of the citizens of our State, by reaching out to
them, informing them about our programmes and works, listening to their issues
and problems and taking immediate action to resolve them as fast as possible,”
said Patnaik.
Maintaining that social media has become an integral part of good
governance in today’s world, Patnaik said it brings the common public closer to
Government and ensures their direct participation in governance and policy
matters.
“Proactive use of social media by Departments will strengthen
3Ts of technology, teamwork and transparency. All Government departments and
agencies should proactively use the medium for informing, educating and
delivering services to the people. We should use social media for welfare of
our people and ensure all benefits and entitlements reach them,” said Patnaik.
Almost all the Government departments, Collectorates and SP
offices and also other have logged in to social media like Facebook, Twitter and
WhatsApp to highlight their achievements, plans and also to get feedback from
public directly. The workshop was aimed at discussing strategies to streamline
the use of social media.
Facebook (South Asia) public policy manager Nitin Saluja trained
the Government officials about some of the best practices used by individuals
or agencies across the globe to reach out to the public in an effective manner.
State Electronics and IT Minister Chandra Sarathi Behera,
Chief Secretary Aditya Prasad Padhi graced the occasion.
