CM dedicates Koraput medical college to people

Koraput, August 4, 2017: Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik on
Monday inaugurated Saheed Laxman Nayak Medical College and Hospital (SLNMC&H)
in Koraput.

“With the opening of the medical college and hospital here, a
long awaited dream of people in tribal dominated districts of south Odisha has
been fulfilled,” said Patnaik.

Patnaik said with addition of SLNMCH in Koraput and PRM College
in Baripada, Government MBBS seats have gone up to 850 and efforts are on to
add 200 more seats next year.

The CM also congratulated the maiden batch of students who
have taken admission from districts of Malkangiri, Koraput, Kandhamal,
Nabarangpur, Rayagada and Nuapa. Classes of first batch of MBBS students too
started on Tuesday.

A total of 100 students have been admitted to the first year
MBBS course. The MBBS students include 62 boys and 38 girls.

“SLNMC&H another stepping stone towards State
Government’s resolve to ensure inclusive, equitable and sustainable development.
The State Government is fully committed towards attracting and retaining of
quality human resources for these hospitals,” said Patnaik.

He urged doctors live up to expectations of people and devote
themselves towards making Odisha a leading state in providing quality health
care to all.

Health and Family Welfare Minister Pratap Jena, SC and ST
Development Minister Ramesh Majhi, Health Secretary Pramod Meherda was present
during the dedication ceremony.
