‘Hum Badlenge Apna Bharat’ campaign for students launched to strengthen democracy

Bhubaneswar, August 19, 2018: Odisha Election Watch on Sunday launched a unique campaign “Hum Badlenge Apna Bharat”- a campaign aiming at strengthening democracy by involving participation of students.

The initiative is being organised in collaboration with Association for Democratic Reforms (ADR) and in cooperation with People’s Cultural Centre (PECUC), National Service Scheme (NSS) and Council of Higher secondary Education (CHSE), Odisha.

“The main purpose of the campaign is to increase youth participation in strengthening democracy and to make future voters an influencer for the adult members of their family and encourage them to be a responsible and proactive citizen when they turn 18,” said Odisha Election Watch Coordinator Ranjan Kumar Mohanty.

The campaign would be conducted in 100 junior colleges (Plus-II educational institutions) on pilot basis. The students would also be sensitised about the need and value of practicing informed and ethical voting and how it leads to good governance through this campaign.

In order to conduct workshops in institutional campuses for Plus II students, a training of trainers and facilitators took place at Bhubaneswar with participation of 50 NSS programme officers and Election Watch facilitators.

Former Chief Secretary Dr Sahadev Sahoo, academician Prof Surya Narayan Mishra, CHSE NSS Programme Coordinator Deepak Kumar Behera among many experts conducted the training programme at Royal College of Science &
Technology in cooperation with Rotary Club of Heritage Bhubaneswar.
