PM Modi lays stone for country’s first coal gasification-based fertiliser plant in Odisha

Talcher, September 22, 2018: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday unveiled a plaque to mark the commencement of work for the revival of Talcher fertilizer plant, country’s first coal gasification-based fertiliser plant Odisha.

In addition to fertiliser, the plant will produce natural gas, which will contribute to the country’s energy requirements. The plant, targeted to be commissioned by 2022, will ensure easy availability of urea in Odisha as there is no urea plant in the State.

“The Talcher fertiliser plant will start production in 36 months. I will come again after three years for its inauguration” Modi said.

“I am happy that we are taking an important step of beginning work in a fertiliser plant here. We are fulfilling dreams that should have been fulfilled long ago. Our aim is to take India to new heights of growth. Projects like the fertiliser plant here are central to India’s growth story. This plant will use latest technology as well,” said Modi.

The plant is being developed by Talcher Fertilizers Limited (TFL), a joint venture company of GAIL, Coal India Limited, Rashtriya Chemicals and Fertilizers Limited and Fertilizer Corporation of India Limited.

Governor Ganeshi Lal, Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik, Union Ministers Jual Oram, Dharmendra Pradhan, Dhenkanal MP Tathagat Satpathy were present in the programme.

The CM thanked the PM for the fertiliser plant stating that it was a long-standing demand of the State.

During his day-long visit to Odisha, Modi will also inaugurate Jharsuguda Airport. It will bring western Odisha on the aviation map of India, and facilitate regional air connectivity through the UDAN scheme, PMO office said in a statement. Jharsuguda will be the second airport of Odisha.

Modi will also dedicate the Garjanbahal coal mines, and the Jharsuguda-Barapali-Sardega rail link to the nation.

Earlier today, he arrived at the Biju Patnaik International Airport here. He was welcomed by Governor Ganeshi Lal and Union Tribal Affairs Minister Jual Oram, Dharmendra Pradhan, Odisha Finance Minister Sashibhusan Behera, Chief Secretary Aditya Prasad Padhi and DGP Dr Rajendra Prasad Sharma.
