Bhubaneswar: A national conference on Arts, Recreation and Rights of Persons with Disabilities here. Nearly 150 dignitaries from across the country took part in the conference.
Women and Child Development and Social Security and Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities Minister Prafulla Samal inaugurated the programme organised by Aaina, a State-based organisation promoting the rights of persons with disabilities for last two decades.
The Minister hailed Aaina for organising the event and said that Government is always giving priority to the issues of the people with disabilities in the state and committed to accept the recommendations of the conference for the betterment of the people with disabilities.
Aaina Secretary Sneha Mishra, noted scientist Dr Priyambada Mohanty Hejmadi spoke about the word “Art” forms; Harmony, balance and rhythm, experience of the mysterious, a ritualistic and symbolic, form of communication, relaxation and entertainment, physical and psychological healing process.
The RPD Act 2016 opens avenues for its promotion and profession as pursuit by the persons with disability.
SS&EPD Department Principal Secretary Niten Chandra said, “Disability factor is dominating here jeopardizing the potentiality of the person with disability as an actor or artist! A shift in attention and attitude is the call of the hour.”
The day-long conference had three technical sessions. The outcome gave the status of Art and Disability in India which would enable the government to design the schematic benefit for persons with disabilities in Art and Recreation, Art as therapy and promotions.
