Ahead of polls, CM announces four big projects for Mayurbhanj

Mayurbahnaj: Ahead of the simultaneous Lok Sabha and Assembly elections, Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik on Wednesday made four big announcements for tribal dominated Mayurbhanj district, including construction of a ring road around the Baripada town to protect it from floods and setting up a Chhau Dance Centre.

Patnaik, who visited the district to launch several development projects, addressed a mega convention of women at Chhau Ground in Baripada where he announced setting up a Chhau Dance Research Centre at Baripada to enrich and popularise the folk dance form.

The Chief Minister also announced that he would write to the Centre requesting restoration of licence of Baripada Urban Cooperative Bank where nearly 35,000 women have deposited money, construction of a ring road around Baripada Town to protect it from floods in river Budhabalang and initiatives by the State Government for taking over the Mayurbhanj Ayurveda College.

Earlier in the day, the Chief Minister launched a slew of projects worth Rs 150 crore. The new projects included inauguration of bridge over Champa River on NH-19 in Baripada, Mother and Child Care Unit at Udala, Girls’ hostels in Maharaja Purna Chandra (Autonomous) College (MPC) and MPC (Junior) College, three piped drinking water supply and a bridge over Budhabalanga River.
