Bhubaneswar: The Economic Offences Wing (EOW) of the Crime Branch on arrested Z-Infra Construction Private Ltd chief general manager (CGM) Soumendra Narayan Dalabehera for allegedly defrauding people of Rs 12 crore on pretext of providing land to them.
In the past, Z-Infra managing director Prasanna Patra and his director wife Rashmita Patra were arrested in connection with the fraud.
The firm’s office was in IRC Village under Nayapalli police limits here, and its officials had collected about Rs 12 crore from over 300 potential plot buyers between 2010 and 2013 assuring them to provide plots with all amenities at low prices in Kansapada area near IIT, Bhubaneswar under Jatni Tehsil.
Actually the Z-Infra had not acquired the plots.
Failing to get the plot, one of the customers identified as Manoranjan Mishra of Bhubaneswar lodged a complaint with the EOW seeking justice.
During investigation, it was revealed that at the time taking the money, the firm officials had the knowledge that it has not acquired required land for selling to the investors from whom they had received the payments worth Rs 12 crore.
However, the accused neither provided litigation free plots with approach road nor refunded the deposited amount to the investors and misappropriated the same.
Earlier on August 7 last year, company MD Prasanna Patra was arrested and his director wife Rashmita Patra was arrested on January 28 by the EOW sleuths in connection with the case. They are in judicial custody now.
They have been booked under Section 420, 406,467, 468, 471, 120-B of IPC and r/w Sec 6 of the OPID Act.
