Bhubaneswar, September 25: Union Petroleum and Natural Gas and Steel Minister Dharmendra Pradhan on Friday said that a rebate of Rs 84.93 crore offered by PSUs of Ministry of Power to DISCOMS in Odisha for power purchase during the lockdown period will provide much-needed relief to the distressed power utility sector in the State.
In a series of tweets, Pradhan who hails from Odisha, expressed gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Power Minister Raj Kumar Singh for the concrete steps and continuous support to help the power sector and distribution companies (DISCOMS) in Odisha impacted by the challenges of Covid-19.
A rebate of Rs 84.93 crore offered by PSUs of Ministry of Power to DISCOMS in Odisha for power purchase during the lockdown period will provide much-needed relief to the distressed power utility sector in the State. While NHPC has offered a rebate of 3.78 crore, NTPC has offered a rebate of 56.8 crore and PGCIL 24.35 crore, respectively.
“The Government of India under the leadership of PM Narendra Modi is committed to provide continuous supply of power to Odisha and also fulfil additional power demand by industrial, commercial and domestic consumers as a result of uptick in economic activities post lifting of the lockdown,” wrote Pradhan.
