Bhubaneswar: Classical Odia Language Day was celebrated at DAV Public School, Chandrasekharpur on Monday amid a series of activities and with a vow to uphold the greatness of the language in all walks of life.
Academic Supervisor PK Patra, Head of the Department (Odia) Jayashree Mohapatra, senior teachers Debendra Pati and Sharmila Dash among others highlighted the importance of the day.
Odia language was accorded the status of sixth classical language on March 11, 2014 with the Union Government issuing a Gazette notification. In the following year, Odisha Government decided to observe the day as the ‘Shastriya Odia Bhasa Divas’ (Classical Odia Language Day).
Other five classical languages in India included – Sanskrit, Tamil, Kannada, Telugu and Malayalam.
