Odisha Police executes 12,134 NBWs

Bhubaneswar: Odisha Police has seized 217 illegal arms and executed 12,134 non-bailable warrants (NBW) as part of its preparedness for the upcoming Lok Sabha and state Assembly elections.

This was revealed at the review meeting chaired by Director General of Police (DGP) Dr RP Sharma on Friday. Sharma asked the SPs of all police districts, range IGs, DIGs, DCPs to make adequate preparation well ahead of time for smooth conduct of the elections.

“In the review meeting, it was found that 217 illegal arms and weapons have been recovered across the State between February 1 and March 29. Similarly, 58,930 litres of foreign liquor and ID have been seized. At least 12,134 NBW cases have been executed or otherwise disposed off and 2,564 persons have been bound down under Section 110 CrPc from during the same period,” said communiqué issued by the State Police Headquarters.

All the pending NBWs have been displayed in the Odisha Police website. The DGP asked the SPs to display the list of the pending NBWs on the notice board of every police station. The DGP requested to the citizens to provide information on such persons.

The DGP also asked the SPs of LWE affected districts to make extra preparation for the election process and advised them to place their requirement of helicopter and Satellite phone sets to ADGP (Operation) forthwith.

Sharma has already visited to Berhampur, Koraput and Sambalpur ranges for spot assessment and election preparedness. He will also visit other ranges of the State soon to take stock of the preparedness.
