Bhubaneswar: In a bid to encourage action and awareness about the protection of the environment, around 375 wards of East Coast Railway Employees’ and volunteers of Bharat Scouts and Guides held an awareness drive to raise awareness on rising environmental issues to mark the World Environment Day on Wednesday.
The children also promoted awareness on Swachh Rail-Swachh Bharat Abhiyan. They took out a rally highlighting action and awareness about the protection of the environment too.
To mark the occasion and also to create awareness on pollution free environment, a painting competition was organised where a large number of children participated. Children were also encouraged to plant saplings and to care of these saplings.
World Environment Day is celebrated on June 5 every year by the United Nations for encouraging worldwide awareness and action for the environment. This year the theme is “Air Pollution”.
