Bhubaneswar: An Odisha BJD MLA has landed in controversy after he was caught on camera punishing a Junior Engineer (JE) of the State Government by forcing him to make sit-ups in full public view.
In the viral video shared in social media and different news channels, the ruling party legislator from Patnagarh, Saroj Meher can be seen directing the Belapada block JE (Works) Jaykant Sabar to make sit-ups else get ready to be thrashed by the public.
The MLA can be heard saying if you (JE) failed to complete 100 sit-ups in five minutes failing which the crowd will beat.
According to reports, the first time MLA made the JE sit-ups in full public view on a complaint of poor construction of a road connecting Ghambari to Belapada lodged before him.
The MLA’s act has triggered a hue and cry on social media. Meher won election by defeating BJP veteran KV Singh Deo in Patnagarh.
Earlier on Monday, Gujarat BJP MLA Balram Thawani was seen beating up and kicking a woman NCP leader in Naroda, video of which went viral on social media forcing the MLA to beg apology.
Meanwhile. district Collector Arbinda Dakua directed the local Sub-Collector to submit a factual report on the matter.
