Odisha extends school summer holidays till June 25 due to heatwave

Bhubaneswar: The State Government on Tuesday announced extension of the summer vacation in schools till June 25 in view of the prevailing heatwave conditions across Odisha.

School and Mass Education Department Secretary Padipta Kumar Mohapatra said that all the schools, including privately run schools will now reopen on June 26.

Earlier, schools were scheduled to reopen after the summer vacation on June 19.

In 2018 too, the summer vacation was extended twice till June 23 and further to June 25 owing to scorching heat.

Western region of the State continued to reel under heatwave conditions while the coastal belt is witnessing high humidity level.

Notably, in the wake of rising temperature across the State, the State Government had advanced summer vacations for all schools and educational institutes from April 18 this year. Last year also the vacations were advanced due to scorching heat from scheduled date of May 4 to April 25 for the sake of the children.
