Bhubaneswar: Schools in Odisha will reopen on Friday instead of June 26, said School and Mass Education Minister Samir Ranjan Dash on Thursday.
The decision was taken considering the changed weather conditions, added Dash. The State Government has issued orders to all schools to start classes from June 21.
“In view of improved weather conditions with the onset of monsoon, Government has been pleased to advance the reopening of the schools to 21.06.2019,” said a notification issued by the School and Mass Education Department.
On June 18, the State Government announced extension of the summer vacation in schools till June 25 in view of the prevailing heatwave conditions across Odisha, but it was rescheduled again today.
Earlier, schools were scheduled to reopen after the summer vacation on June 19.
In 2018 too, the summer vacation was extended twice till June 23 and further to June 25 owing to scorching heat.
Notably, in the wake of rising temperature across the State, the State Government had advanced summer vacations for all schools and educational institutes from April 18 this year. Last year also the vacations were advanced due to scorching heat from scheduled date of May 4 to April 25 for the sake of the safety and security of the children.
