Odisha

Kendrapara: The Kendrapara Town police has registered a case against Anubhav Mohanty, ruling BJD’s Kendrapara Lok Sabha member for misbehaving with a TV journalist on duty.

Mohanty was booked under Sections 341, 323, 294, 500 & 506 of IPC.

Notably, journalist Manoj Swain, working with a private TV channel, alleged that the ruling BJD Lok Sabha member misbehaved with him at the Kendrapara Collector’s office on Tuesday when he was attending the media briefing of the MP along with other journalists.

Basing on the complaint lodged by Swain on Wednesday, the Kendrapara Town Police has registered a FIR against the lawmaker.

Notably, journalists cutting across media houses on Thursday served a 24-hour ultimatum to Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik to take action against the MP. They also demanded a public apology by the MP within 24 hours and the passing of a Bill guaranteeing safety and security of journalists on duty in the coming session of the Odisha Assembly, failing which the journalists have threatened to intensify their protest.

Meanwhile, reports were also coming in from all over the State about protests by local journalists against the Lok Sabha member’s unprovoked behaviour.

The actor-turned-politician has been in news for the wrong reasons for last months. The first time Lok Sabha member recently courted controversy when he engaged in public spat with his neighbour and party colleague in Cuttack. Earlier in June, a woman journalist had also accused Mohanty of misbehaving and threatening her. A complaint was also lodged at Purighat police station against the lawmaker in this connection.
