Buffalos squat on railway tracks, major train accident averted in Bhubaneswar

Bhubaneswar: A major train accident was averted on Saturday near VSS Nagar between Bhubaneswar and Mancheswar stations under East Coast Railways (ECoR) due to the gateman’s presence of mind at the railway crossing.

According to an ECoR communiqué, at 12.50 pm a herd of buffalo came on the middle of the lines to pass another side at the Level Crossing near VSS Nagar between Bhubaneswar and Mancheswar, when 22805 Bhubaneswar-Anand Vihar Superfast Express via Angul was supposed to pass within a few minutes.

Before the train reached near the Level Crossing, gateman AK Tripathy immediately showed red signal to loco pilot and the train stopped before LC.

“It is learnt that a herd of buffalo came to the middle of the train line to pass another side when the train was supposed to pass within a few minutes. The presence of mind of the gateman avoided the accident of this train with buffalo. Apart from this, he also avoided the traffic problem supposed to be happened, if the accident happened,” the ECoR stated.
