Odisha approves investment proposals worth Rs 17,833 crore

Bhubaneswar: In a major boost to industrialisation and employment generation, the State Government on Thursday approved three investment proposals worth Rs 17,833 crore. The approved industrial projects will create 6,539 new jobs.

The High Level Clearance Authority (HLCA) under chairmanship of the Chief Minister approved the proposal of Hindalco Industries Ltd for setting up a 2 million ton per annum (MTPA) alumina refinery unit at Kansariguda in Rayagada with a total investment of Rs 8000 crore providing employment to about 4,250 people.

It also approved the proposal of NTPC Ltd for expansion of thermal power plant capacity of Talcher Thermal Power Station at Talcher in Angul with additional investment of Rs 7698.46 crore and the proposal of Rungta Mines Ltd (RML) to expand its integrated Steel Plant from 0.27 MTPA to 0.9 MTPA capacity at Kamanda in Sundergarh with a total investment of Rs 2135 crore providing additional employment of 2289 people.

The Chief Minister reviewed follow-up activity on investment intents received during Make In Odisha 2016 and 2018.

Speaking on the occasion, the Chief Minister said that the proposed projects will further strengthen Odisha’s dominance in steel, aluminium and thermal power sector.

Among others, Finance Minister Niranjan Pujari, Steel and Mines Minister Prafulla Mallik, MSME Minister Dibya Sankar Mishra and Chief Secretary Asit Tripathy were also present.
