Bhubaneswar: Unlike the BJP which has the habit of politicising human tragedies and accidents, the ruling Biju Janata Dal (BJD) does not believe in politicicing such incidents, said BJD spokesperson and Rajya Sabha member Sasmit Patra on Saturday.

The response came a day after under construction roof linking two terminals of the Biju Patnaik International Airport (BPIA) here collapsed late on Friday night resulting in the death of one person.

The regional party demanded strict and exemplary action against those responsible for this incident.

“BJD does not believe in politicizing human tragedies and accidents like the BJP. An unfortunate and preventable incident occurred yesterday night at the airport where we learn one person has died and several injured,” said a statement issued by Patra.

Expressing deepest condolences to the family of the deceased, Patra said, “We demand that the deceased’s family is adequately compensated and proper treatment is given to the injured free of cost.”

“Unlike the BJP which has the habit of politicizing human tragedies and accidents, we do not believe in politicizing such incidents. We demand a thorough investigation and strict and exemplary action against those responsible for this incident,” Patra said.

The concrete roof of a passage linking Terminal 1 to Terminal 2 of the airport that was reportedly being cast on Friday afternoon collapsed. The incident occurred around 11pm at night killing one person on the spot and injuring another who is being treated at the Capital Hospital here.
