Cuttack: A 40-bed special Corona ward with eight ICUs has been opened at SCB Medical College and Hospital on Wednesday. A professor of Pulmonary department and two doctors have been engaged for treatment of any possible patients infected with the novel coronavirus (nCoV), informed hospital Emergency Officer Bhubanananda Maharana on Monday.
“Initially, 40-bed special Corona ward with eight ICUs has been opened. A team of doctors led by Pulmonary department HoD Manoranjan Pattnaik will treat the any possible patients infected with the novel coronavirus,” said Maharana.
He said that the bed and ICU facility will be increased if situation arises.
The Odisha Government has notified four hospitals – SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack, VSS Institute of Medical Sciences and Research (VIMSAR), Burla, Capital Hospital in Bhubaneswar and District Headquarters Hospital, Jharsuguda – as isolation and treatment centres for possible patients infected with the nCoV.
The Government too had issued an advisory to different authorities including hospitals, airports, ports and railway divisions to put in place necessary arrangements to tackle any situation in view of the outbreak of the virus.
The advisory says persons with travel history to China during last one month and flu like symptoms must use mask and report to nearest hospital for screening and necessary treatment.
