Bhubaneswar: As the USA flew home its citizens from a coronavirus-infected cruise ship in Japan on Monday, an engineer from Odisha has made desperate pleas to the Indian and Odisha Governments to evacuate him along with 142 Indians trapped in the ship as global concerns grow over the spread of the disease.

Sibasish Nayak, a resident of Berhampur, has been stranded for the last 17 days in the cruise ship namely ‘Diamond Princess’ along with 142 Indians at Japan’s Yokohama port.

Watching the Indian students leave, he posted video on social media asking the Central Government and Odisha Government to do the same.

“I request the Indian Government to take immediate steps to evacuate me and other Indians on board,” said Nayak in the video.

Sibasish’s father Lingaraj Nayak also appealed the Governments to ensure early evacuation of his son.

“Though my son has tested negative for Coronavirus, Japan Government has kept him detained inside the ship. If he will stay longer inside the ship, there are chances of infection. I appeal to Odisha and Central Governments to take steps to bring back my son home. Meanwhile, America has evacuated its people through special choppers,” said Lingaraj.
