205 Odisha schools don’t have classrooms

Bhubaneswar: The State Government on Wednesday informed that a total of 205 schools, including 90 primary and 115 elementary schools have no classrooms in Odisha.

While Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik’s home district Ganjam recorded the highest number of 20 primary schools and 30 elementary schools operating without classrooms, Mayurbahnj recorded the least with one school each in elementary and primary level operating sans classrooms.

“A total 90 primary and 115 elementary schools have no classrooms. As many as 470 schools are being run by a single teacher,” School and Mass Education Minister Samir Ranjan Dash informed the Assembly in response to a query of BJP’s Mohan Charan Majhi.

The Minister further informed that 315 schools are operating with less than 10 students while 1084 schools have no computers.

“Computers in 28 high schools are gathering the dust as there is no electricity in these schools. Similarly, 2610 schools have no library while only one teacher each is managing the show in 470 schools,” the Minister informed the House.
