BSCL celebrates International Women’s Day in Bhubaneswar

Bhubaneswar: Bhubaneswar Smart City Limited (BSCL) on Sunday International Women’s Day here at Utkal Karate School under its social initiative, which is a collaborative initiative of Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation, Bhubaneswar Smart City Limited and United Nations Population Fund.

More than 150 young boys and girls and women from 100 slums of Bhubaneswar participated in the programme. The guests shared their journey to finally create a position in the area. Besides this some of the peer leaders (Pragati Sathi) shared their journey of change after being associated with the project.

The young boys and girls also presented cultural programmes highlighting the issues of gender equality that is the need of the hour.

Prior to the main event, zone level cricket and kabaddi competitions were organised for girls and women of the community.

There was huge response for the sports activity and the prize winners were felicitated in the main programme organised at Utkal Karate School.

Besides this some of the young peer leaders were also felicitated for their role to bring positive changes at community level.

The eminent guests present on the occasion included people of eminence from the field of sports, law, police, journalism, law and academics. These included Arpita Mohapatra, special swimming coach, Biseswari Mohanty, journalist Dinalipi Mammali Bebarta, Banita Moharana, IIC, Poet Bidyut Prava Biswal and teacher from BJB Primary School Sadhana Panda.

The social interventions of BSCL is being implemented at the level of 100 slums by Humara Bachpan Trust. The main focus of the project is empowering young boys and girls of the community to take leadership to address issues and challenges of their communities.

More than 172 young children have received nine days of training in three phases in life skill education. Also approximately 600 girls have received 10 days of self defence training in an attempt to empower girls.
