Park Utsav: Capital City raises a toast to celebrate womenhood

Bhubaneswar: It was women power all the way at the Park Utsav on Sunday! Women irrespective of their caste, creed, religion and profession came together to show the world that they are as good as the men and deserve appreciation and respect for their contribution to family and society.
On the occasion of International Women’s Day, all arrangements were made at Biju Patnaik Park and Kharavela Park in the Capital City to make the women folks feel special and pampered in this edition of Park Utsav.
To make the day memorable, a host of creative activities such as dance, singing, painting, ramp walks among others were organised for women participants.
In addition to this, Mrilani Nanda and Purbasha Malik performed a 5-minute act with a theme of Women’s Day message. Similary, Little Stars of ‘Sai World of Dance’, Pokhariput enthralled the audiance with their scintillating performance.
The weekly event saw many celebrities, including leading Odia film actors Archita Sahu, Sheetal and singers like Barnali Hota and Neha  entertained and motivated the audience with their performances and speeches . “Now, women are as good as men in every sphere of life. Women deserve same amount of social appreciation and respect who have broken glass-ceilings and carved a niche for themselves,” said Archita.
On the occasion, a team of artists from City-based art studio DPR Artlife created live wood dust paintings of famous Odia social activists such as Tulasi Munda and Rama Devi and the current generation’s icon Dutee Chand as a mark trubute to these women’s outstanding achievements.
Besides, the DPR Artlife team has also conducted a Mandala Workshop for women.
Bhubaneswar Development Authority Secretary RN Mishra, who attended the event along with several officials, said:”The anti-women attitude of the society can be eliminated only by bringing more women to the mainstream.”
Both kids and adults had a gala time as a host of activities such as yoga, meditation, painting, storytelling, music and dance among others were organised as part of the event.
Taking the opportunity, the civic body also organised an awareness campaign about not to use plastic and polythene bags. People have  been urged to adopt a healthy lifestyle by making little changes in their habits and mindsets.
This apart, a free health check up programme was conducted at Kharavela Park during the event. People took its benefit and checked blood pressure, body mass index(BMI) and body glucose levels.
The ‘Park Utsav’, a one-of-its-kind event being held in Bhubaneswar has been drawing people from all corners of the city.
The BDA and BMC have made elaborate arrangements for smooth conduct of the event.
As part of the plan, next Park Utsav will be held at IG Park and Madhusudandas Park on March 15.
