Covid-19 scare: Nandankanan Zoo closed for public till March 31

Bhubaneswar: Alarmed by novel coronavirus aka Covid-19 scare, the Nandankanan Zoological Park authorities has announced its decision to shut down the zoo for public with immediate effect till March 31.

“Nandankanan Zoo and State Botanical Garden is closed to public with effect from March 15, 2020 till March 31, 2020 as a precautionary measure against spreading of novel Coronavirus,” said the Zoo Deputy Director in a press release.

As huge congregations are considered conducive for spread of the killer virus, zoo authorities took this decision as part of the preventive measures.

The State switched to shutdown mode with events being postponed, educational institutions being closed and police cancelling licences and permissions for processions, rallies, dharnas, meetings, marriage parties as well as other social gatherings.

On Friday, the Odisha Government declared the spread of Covid-19 as a State disaster, and shut down all educational institutions and cinema halls, as a precautionary measure, till March 31.

However, nobody was tested positive for the deadly virus so far in the State.
