COVID-19 scare: All schools shut in Odisha, exams of Class I to IX postponed

Bhubaneswar: The Odisha Government on Monday postponed the exams of students of Class I-IX in all type of schools, including Government, aided, private and public across the State with immediate effect in view of Coronavirus outbreak.

“In view of the pandemic situation arising out of COVID-19 (Coronavirsu), all Government, aided, public and private schools of the State will remain closed and examination of all classes from Class I-IX stands postponed,” said a School and Mass Education Department notification.

“Schools must be closed and teachers must not attend schools but should remain available over phone for specific instructions,” it added. The instructions will come into force with immediate effect.

The development came after a 33-year-old youth with travel history to Italy was tested positive for the Coronavirus on Sunday night thereby being the first such case in Odisha.

Earlier, the State Government had ordered closure of schools from March 13 to check the spread of the virus.
