ECoR directs disinfection of railway coaches to stop spread of COVID-19

Bhubaneswar: With Odisha recording it’s first confirmed case of Coronavirus aka COVID-19, East Coast Railway (ECoR) General Manager Vidya Bhushan on Monday chaired a high-level review meeting and directed disinfection of railway coaches to check the spread of the virus.
To properly handle and prevent the spread of corona virus, several decisions have been taken in the meeting.
As per an ECoR statement, it has offered all assistance to State Government to set up screening facilities at all the helpdesk at all important Railway stations. All logistics will be offered to doctors of state Government to set up screening facilities.
Infra Red thermometers for thermal screening will be made available at all important stations handling large number of passengers. DRMs of Khurda Road, Sambalpur and Waltair have been advised, it said.
While special emphasis has been given on dis-infection of trains coaches and toilets staff coming in contact with passengers at mass contact areas like booking and reservation offices are specially being sensitised. Same with Train Travelling Ticket Examiners (TTEs).
Isolation or Quarantine facilities have been set up by all the Divisions of ECoR.
Railway officials who have travelled abroad in recent past have been screened and asked to be kept in isolation, it said.
All DRMs have been advised to go for emergency procurement of items required for handling covid-19 cases, it added.
