2,856 foreign returnees couldn’t be contacted in Odisha amid Coronavirus scare

Bhubaneswar: At least 2,856 persons, who returned from abroad in last two weeks, could not be contacted by District Surveillance teams in Odisha triggering a huge public crisis amid the Coronavirus (Covid-19) outbreak.

Health and Family Department has asked all district Collectors and Municipal Commissioners to immediately contact them and put them in home quarantine.

In a letter to all Collectors and Municipal Commissioners, Health and Family Welfare Department Secretary Nikunja Bihari Dhal said, “Active surveillance is the foundation of prevention and containment. The updated data has been received indicates that 2,856 persons who have returned from abroad during the last 14 days could not be contacted by District Surveillance teams so far. The persons could infect others unless home quarantined. They need to be contacted at the earliest to ensure home quarantine. This task has to be carried out by Collectors and Municipal Commissioners.”

The Collectors and Municipal Commissioners have been asked to personally monitor the matter.
