Odisha

Berhampur: Amid complete lockdown in the city due to a spurt in Covid-19 positive cases, around 7,500 families consisting of more than 30,000 people in slums have been supported by the Berhampur Municipal Corporation (BeMC), through donations mobilised by various charity minded people and organisations.

On Wednesday, the BeMC distributed dry ration kits consisting of 5 kg of rice, 1 1/2 kg daal, 1 kg atta, 1kg suji and one oil bottle to every household to meet a 15-day requirement.

The BeMC’s target is to reach out and provide ration to 20,000 families which will benefit around 1 lakh slum dwellers in the next 15 days.

These households were identified during the survey conducted under JAGA Mission, acclaimed as the world’s largest slum transformation programme.
