8 Ganjam labourers die in road mishap in Chhattisgarh; Odisha CM announces Rs 2 lakh ex-gratia

Ganjam, September 5: In a tragic mishap, eight workers were killed and many sustained critical injuries as a bus in which they were travelling collided head-on with a speeding truck at Cherikhedi near Raipur in Chhattisgarh early this morning.

According to reports, the mishap occurred at around 3.30 PM when the ill-fated was on its way to Surat in Gujarat. All the deceased and injured belonged to Ganjam district in Odisha. The

Meanwhile, Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik announced an ex-gratia of Rs 2 lakh each from the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund (CMRF) to the next of the kin of the deceased.

“The Chief Minister has expressed deep grief at the tragic death of 7 persons of Ganjam district in a road accident in Raipur. The CM has conveyed his deep sympathy to the bereaved families & announced ex-gratia of Rs 2 lakh each from CMRF to the next of the kin of the deceased,” said a CMO statement.

State Director General of Police (DGP) Abhay informed that as per direction of Chief Minister, they are in touch with senior police officers of Chhattisgarh police.

“As per the CM’s order we are in touch with the senior police officers of Chhattisgarh police. Seven injured persons are being treated in Raipur Medical College Hospital. Post-mortem of seven persons will be done soon,” tweeted the DGP.

“Odisha police team under SDPO Padampur is rushing to Raipur to assist Police authorities. Fifty nine remaining labours are safe and under care of Raipur administration and police,” the DGP said in another tweet.
