Bhubaneswar, December 28: Odisha Cabinet headed by Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik on Monday decided to provide reservation to Government School and College students in Medical and Engineering admission.
A high-level committee comprising educationists, eminent persons led by a retired High Court judge will be set up to work out the details on the reservation of MBBS and BTech seats for students passing from Government schools and submit report to the State Government within three months so that the recommendations will be implemented from next academic year.
In a series of tweets, the Chief Minister said the decision will provide confidence to meritorious students from Government schools and help fulfill their dreams to become doctors and engineers.
“Over the last few years, it’s observed that the number of students from Government schools and colleges in medical and engineering courses has been coming down. This is not due to lack of merit but a deeper divide in access to coaching. The decision will correct this imbalance,” wrote Patnaik.
