Bhubaneswar, March 5: Ahead of urban local body elections in the State on March 24, the ruling BJD on Saturday announced names of three Mayor nominees for the three municipal corporations in the State.
While Sulochana Das has been chosen as the Mayor candidate for Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC), Rajya Sabha member Subash Singh has been named as the Mayor candidate for Cuttack Municipal Corporation (CMC) and Sanghamitra Dalei for Berhampur Municipal Corporation (BeMC).
Elections to 106 ULBs and three Municipal Corporations will be held on March 24 while counting will be conducted on March 26.
The three Municipal Corporations will have a total of 168 wards and 1,407 booths. These include 67 wards and 705 booths in BMC, 59 wards and 452 booths in CMC, and 42 wards and 250 booths in BeMC.
Congress has already named former corporator Giribala Behera as the party’s Mayor candidate for the CMC and Madhusmita Acharya for BMC. However, it is yet to announce its candidate for Berhampur Municipal Corporation.
BJP, the main opposition force in the State has not yet announced its Mayor candidates for the three municipal corporations.
