Odisha Govt closes schools for next 5-day due to scorching heat

Bhubaneawar April 11: In view of intense heat wave condition, Anganwadis and all schools both Government and private up to Class-X will remain closed from Wednesday till April 16, directed Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik on Tuesday.

As many as nine places in the State recorded temperature above 40 degrees Celsius today with Baripada being hottest at 41.6 degree Celsius followed by Jharsuguda 41.2 degree Celsius, Sambalpur 40.8 degree Celsius and Bhubaneswar 40.7 degree Celsius and Cuttack 40 degree Celsius.

The day temperature in Bhubaneswar rose above 40 degree Celsius for the first time this year.

The other places with recorded day temperature of 40 °C or above are Angul 40.1 °C, Sambalpur 40.8 °C, Sundargarh 40 °C, Titilagarh and Boudh 40.5 °C each.

Meanwhile, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Tuesday issued ‘heat wave’ alert for several Odisha districts for the next few days.

As per the latest IMD forecast, heat wave conditions are likely to prevail in some parts of interior Odisha from April 13 to April 15.
