Odisha Govt gives consent to CBI probe into Balasore train accident; Case registered

Bhubaneswar, June 6: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has registered a case in connection with Friday’s collision involving two passenger trains and a goods train at Bahanaga Bazar in Balasore district in Odisha on June 2, which claimed 275 lives.

Meanwhile, a 20-member CBI team visited the accident site.

The CBI has taken over the investigation of the case earlier registered at Balasore Government Railway Police Station (GRPS) regarding the triple-train accident.

“The Central Bureau of Investigation has registered a case on the request of Ministry of Railways, consent of the Odisha Government and further orders from DoPT (Govt. of India) relating to the train accident involving Coromandel Express, Yashwantpur-Howrah Express and a Goods train at Bahanaga Bazar in the State of Odisha on 2nd June, 2023,” said CBI statement.

“CBI has taken over the investigation of the case earlier registered at Balasore GRPS, District Cuttack (Odisha) vide GRPS Case No.64 dated 03.06.2023 regarding the said accident. A CBI team has reached Balasore (Odisha). Investigation is continuing,” it added.

The Government Railway Police (GRP) has registered an FIR at Balasore GRP station against unknown persons in connection with train mishap.
