Balasore Train Tragedy: Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw sanctions Rs 1.55 crore for various development projects

Bhubaneswar, July 6: Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw has sanctioned Rs 1.55 crore for Balasore district, particularly Bahanaga locality where a train accident took place on June 2 in which 294 people were killed and more than 1,200 were injured.

According to a Ministry of Railway statement released on Thursday, the Union Minister met the first responders at accident site, local people, villagers, members of NGOs and others during his visit to Bahanaga Bazar and Balasore on June 20 and 21.

He sanctioned the amount from the MPLAD Scheme.

For improvement of local area, the Railway Minister MR has sanctioned a fund of Rs 1 crore for various developmental works at Bahanaga and nearby villages, including construction of five Community Centres and Hall with provision of toilet and cold drinking water with RO, construction of Children Park & Gym near Basuli High School, strengthening of Road from NH-16 to Level Crossing No. 95, repairing of Sartira Village Road at Sathi, improvement of Pranabandhu Bidyapitha School playground, provision of 42 Solar Street Lights etc.

He has also sanctioned Rs 35 lakh for Advanced Life Support (ALS) Ambulance for District Headquarters Hospital, Balasore. Moreover, Rs 20 lakh has been sanctioned for one Modular Operation Theatre at Balasore Lions Eye Hospital.
