Hockey gold in Asian Games: CM announces Rs 1.5 crore cash reward for Odisha’s Amit Rohidas

Bhubaneswar, October 7: Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik on Saturday announced a cash award of Rs 1.5 crore for defender-dragflicker Amit Rohidas for his significant role in India’s historic Gold Medal triumph at the 19th AsianGames in Hangzhou in China.

The Chief Minister expressed his heartfelt congratulations to Amit Rohidas, acknowledging his outstanding performance and calling him an inspiration for youngsters not only across Odisha but also throughout India.

Amit Rohidas, a true son of the soil from the hockey-rich region of Sundargarh in Odisha, had proudly earned himself an Olympic Bronze Medal at the Tokyo Olympics 2020. A product of Odisha’s rich sporting culture, he honed his exceptional skills at the Panposh Sports Hostel in Rourkela.

On Friday, Chief Minister Patnaik talked to the Indian Men’s Hockey India over video call for their historic Gold Medal at the 19th Asian Games and announced a cash award of Rs 5 lakh each for players and support staff of the victorious team.

The Indian Team sealed the berth for Paris Olympics 2024. They convincingly beat defending champions Japan 5-1 in the Final.
