Bhubaneswar, May 24: Nearly 35,000 security personnel have been deployed for the sixth phase of the national polling in six parliamentary and 42 Assembly constituencies spread over 12 districts in the State, said DGP Arun Kumar Sarangi here on Friday.
The top cop said that as per guidelines of the Election Commission of India (ECI), they were deploying 100% CAPF in booth duties.
“Nearly 35,000 security personnel, including 121 companies of CAPF and 106 platoons of State police forces will be deployed to maintain law and order during elections tomorrow,” said Sarangi.
As many as 121 companies of paramilitary forces, 106 platoons of Odisha Armed Police and 19,865 civil police forces have been deployed for the smooth and peaceful conduct of the third phase of elections in Odisha. As many as 43 Additional SPs, 95 DSPs, 238 inspectors, 2160 SIs, 10, 212 armed and unarmed Constables and Havildars, 7,117 Home Guards and Grama Rakhis will be deployed for this purpose, informed the DGP.
Sarangi said, “Out of the 10,515 booths in 7,646 locations, 20 per cent booths are sensitive. For each sensitive booth, there will be a deployment of the central armed police forces depending upon the sensitivity. As per ECI guidelines, we are deploying 100% CAPF in booth duties.”
Gazetted officers, observers and other police forces will perform general law and order duties and ensure free and fair polling in six parliamentary constituencies and 42 Assembly constituencies under them going to the polls on Saturday.
These parliamentary constituencies are Bhubaneswar, Cuttack, Puri, Sambalpur, Keonjhar and Dhenkanal. A total 64 MP candidates and 383 MLA candidates are in the fray.
A total of 94.8 lakh voters will exercise their franchise.
