Bhubaneswar, October 19: The 18th Pravasi Bharatiya Divas (PBD) will be held in Bhubaneswar from January 8-10 next year.
President Droupadi Murmu, Prime Minister Narendra Modi & several Union Ministers will attend the event to be held at the Janata Maidan.
A high-level meeting chaired by Chief Secretary Manoj Ahuja was held today to take stock of preparations. Development Commissioner Anu Garg, Home Secretary Satayabrata Sahu among senior IAS and IPS officers attended the meeting.
The PBD is celebrated annually on January 9th to commemorate the day in 1915 when Mahatma Gandhi returned from South Africa. The PBD Convention is the flagship event of the Ministry of Overseas Indian Affairs (MOIA) and is held biennially to connect India with its diaspora.
The Pravasi Bharatiya Samman Award (PBSA) is the highest honor given to the Indian diaspora and is presented during the PBD Convention. The PBSA is awarded to Non-Resident Indians (NRIs), Persons of Indian Origin (PIOs), or organizations established and run by NRIs or PIOs.
The award recognises contributions in several areas, including Better understanding of India, Support to India’s causes and concerns, Building closer links between India and the overseas community, Social and humanitarian causes, Philanthropic and charitable work and Eminence in one’s field.
