Bolangir, October 19: Gobinda Sahu, the prime accused in the sensational Mamita Meher kidnapping-murder case, was nabbed from Budhipadar village under Bangomunda block in the district on Tuesday.
“Prime accused in sindhikela ps case has been apprehended. He absconded from Police custody earlier,” tweeted Bolangir SP.
Earlier in the day, Balangir SP had announced Rs 1 lakh award for providing information on ‘Most Wanted’ Sahu, who escaped from Titlagarh police barrack on Sunday night.
Sahu, the president of Sunshine English Medium School and the key accused in disappearance of Mamita, had escaped from police barrack in Titlagarh on Sunday night. Gobinda was in police custody for five days.
Mamita (24), a teacher in Sunshine English Medium School at Mahaling in Kalahandi district, went missing on October 8.
Sahu was detained by police on the basis of the FIR lodged by Mamita’s brother Bunty Meher on October 12.
A resident of Jharni village in Balangir’s Turekela block, Mamita was allegedly called by Sahu to come to the school for some official work. She was asked to come to Chandotara from where she would be given a lift in the school president’s car. Mamita reportedly reached Chandotara by bus but went missing thereafter and her mobile phone was switched off.
Family members of the teacher alleged that Sahu had forced many women employees and students of the school into illicit relationship with him.
Apart from being a teacher, Mamita also served as warden of the girls’ hostel of the school.
Meanwhile, family members have identified the body, which was exhumed from the campus of the school, as that of Mamita’s and also confirmed that anklet and a chain found at the spot belong to her.
Meanwhile, Mamita’s disappearance has snowballed into a political slugfest with opposition parties demanding the ouster of MoS (Home) Dibya Shankar Mishra for his alleged role in the incident. Mishra had once in a function of the school, endorsed Gobinda and heaped praises on him for being an educationist and philanthropist. Law Minister Pratap Jena was also present in the said programme.
