Puri, January 11: Renowned sand artist Sudarsan Pattnaik on Tuesday created a sculpture of Mihir Das on the Puri beach to pay tributes to the veteran Odia actor who died today.
Das was suffering from renal ailments for years, and he was admitted to the private hospital in Cuttack on December 9 last year and was on ventilator support. He was 63.
“Deeply saddened to know about the unfortunate demise of legendary Odia actor #MihirDas . His contribution to Odia cinema is immense. My deepest condolences to his family,” tweeted Pattnaik.
Born in Mayurbhanj district on February 11, 1959, he made his debut in art film ‘School Master’, and first acted in a commercial movie in ‘Mathura Bijay’ in 1979.
The versatile actor had won the state government’s best actor award for his performance in ‘Laxmi Pratima’ (1998), and ‘Pheria Mo Suna Bhauni’ (2005).
The last rites of the versatile actor will be performed with state honour, annouced the Chief Minister’s Office.
Meanwhile, people from different walks of life, including Governor Prof Ganeshi Lal, Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik, Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan condoled the death of the renowned cine actor.
