Odisha: Liquor, contraband worth Rs 3 crore seized in excise raids

Cuttack, February 6: During the ongoing enforcement drive to curb manufacture, sale and distribution of illicit liquor in view of three-tier Panchayat elections, the State Excise Department has seized a huge amount of illegal excise liquor and other materials worth Rs 3 crore during the last one week from January 30 to February 5, said an official release on Sunday.

All Excise personnel have been directed to conduct sustained enforcement work and to ensure that there should not be sale of any duplicate/non duty paid IMFL in their respective districts and be vigilant at all the time, till completion of the election process.

According to a Excise Department release, the Field Officers of Directorate of Excise have detected 1,050 cases, arrested 832 accused persons and seized 27,266 Litre of ID liquor, 3,33,006 Litre of ID wash (base raw material for manufacturing country liquor), 604 KG Ganja, 334.71 litre of duplicate IMFL, 26.75 Litre non-duty paid IMFL and 100 Litre Spirit during the period.

The excise sleuths also seized 133.75 Litre ginger /tincture, 97,200 pieces of duplicate EAL, 12,000 pieces of duplicate company label of different brands, 2 lakh pieces of corks/ caps and 38 bikes & four wheelers along with other incriminating excisable article during the state-wide drive.

The Directorate of Excise is constantly monitoring the enforcement activities.
