Two Maoist militia members arrested in Odisha’s Nabarangpur

Nabarangpur, May 1: The District Voluntary Force (DVF) of Nabarangpur police on Sunday arrested two militia members from the Hatigaon reserve forest area under Raigahr police station limits.

The arrested have been identified as Hemalal Nagesh (31) and Prakesh Markar (20) of Sobha area in Gariyabandh in Chhattisgarh.

Acting on a tipoff regarding the movement of a 10-15 Udanti LOS Maoist group led by Sunil of Mainpur, Nuapada Division, a special anti-Naxal operation comprising DVF, Nabarangpur was launched in Hatigaon Reserve Forest under Raighar police station limits.

The DVF chased the Maoist group but they escaped by running away taking advantage of the hilly terrain and dense forest.

The police team apprehended two suspected militia members with banners and posters in civil dress early on Sunday morning.

After verification, it was learned that the duo was involved in several cases in Nabarangpur district, including the killing of two civilians in Hatigaon and Naktisemada gram panchayat, said police.

They confessed to their involvement with the Maoist group Udanti LOS led by Sunil (ACM).
