Cyclone Dana: Odisha CM holds review meeting, sets zero casualty target

Bhubaneswar, October 21: “Zero casualty will be the mission. There is no need to panic,” said Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi after chairing a high-level meeting to review the State’s preparedness to tackle the impending Cyclone Dana.

“Zero casualty will be ensured. There is no need to ppanic. State Government is fully prepared to tackle the situation. 100% evacuation will be made after identifying vulnerable areas,” said Chief Minister Majhi.

He said, “NDRF, ODRAF & Fire Services teams are kept ready. Government is closely monitoring the situation. Cyclone shelters will be equipped with all basic necessities and essential commodities. Discussion also held for early restoration of power and water supply and telephone and road communication. Uninterrupted electricity will be ensured to hospitals. Concerned department has already kept a close watch to prevent hoarding or overcharging of essential commodities.”

According to the IMD, Cyclone Dana will cross north Odisha and West Bengal coasts between Puri and Sagar island in West Bengal during the night of 24th and early morning of 25th October.

“The Low Pressure Area over the Eastcentral Bay of Bengal and adjoining north Andaman Sea moved west-northwestwards and lay as Well marked low pressure area over eastcentral Bay of Bengal at 1130 hours IST of today. It is very likely to move west-northwestwards and intensify into a depression by 22nd October morning and into a cyclonic storm by 23rd October, 2024 over eastcentral Bay of Bengal,” said IMD.

“Thereafter, it is very likely to move northwestwards and reach northwest Bay of Bengal off Odisha-West Bengal coasts by 24th October morning. Continuing to move northwestwards, it is very likely to cross north Odisha and West Bengal coasts between Puri and Sagar Island during night of 24th and early morning 25th October, 2024 as a severe Cyclonic Storm with a wind speed of 100-110 kmph gusting 120 kmph,” said IMD.
