Bhubaneswar: The State Cabinet chaired by Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik on Friday approved the Rs 220 crore bid from Tata Projects to build a new Government Medical College at Bhawanipatna in Kalahandi district on turnkey basis.
Turnkey project provides for every building solution under a single window.
The 100-seated medical college will be completed in two years and improve medical education and services in the State. The people of the backward district and nearby regions now have to depend on VSS Medical College and Hospital, Burla in Sambalpur and nearby cities, including those in Chhattisgarh, for specialised treatment.
Chief Minister Patnaik had laid the foundation stone for the medical college in November 2016.
The Cabinet also cleared Rs 116.92 crore bid from Bridge and Roof Co (India) to build a multi utility complex and PG students’ hostel at t Sardar Vallav Bhai Patel Post Graduate Institute of Paediatric also known as Sishu Bhawan in Cuttack which will be built in two years without any price escalation.
The Cabinet also gave its nod on replacement street lights with energy efficient LED lights across all 113 urban local bodies to reduce power consumption and improve safety. The project will be implemented through public private partnership (PPP) mode in five months with seven years operation and maintenance.
This apart, it also cleared Rs 448 crore plan to create green cover along Baitarani, Brahmani, Rushikulya rivers and their tributaries. Notably, the State Government has already launched Green Mahanadi Mission to create a green cover belt within 1-km off either side of the Mahanadi and its tributaries.
