Bhubaneswar, July 23: Deputy Chief Minister Pravati Parida on Wednesday underscored the State Government’s strong commitment to ensuring a safe and dignified workplace for all, especially for the women employees.

Parida said strict directives have been issued to constitute Internal Complaints Committees (ICCs) in all institutions and colleges to ensure proper implementation of the POSH Act.

Parida, who also holds the Women and Child Development portfolio, was speaking as the chief guest at an orientation programme on the Sexual Harassment of Women at Workplace (Prevention, Prohibition and Redressal) Act, 2013 – commonly known as the POSH Act – organised at the Lok Seva Bhavan Convention Centre here.

Addressing over 600 employees of the Lok Seva Bhavan (State Secretariat), Parida urged all of them to raise their voices against sexual harassment and to foster a culture of respect and equality.

“Both men and women can be victims of sexual harassment. Therefore, it is crucial for everyone to be aware of the provisions of the POSH Act and remain vigilant,” she said.

Maintaining that that women and men are the two wheels of society, she stressed the need for harmony and mutual respect between all genders to build a safe workplace and a progressive society.

She warned, “Stern legal action will be ensured for the guilty following proper investigation, and at the same time, individuals found making false allegations will also face consequences.”

Senior lawyer Manasi Padhi delivered a detailed presentation on the POSH Act during two dedicated sessions, spreading awareness among the participants. She explained the provisions, rights, responsibilities, and redressal mechanisms under the Act in depth.

Women and Child Development Director Monisha Banerjee and senior departmental officials also graced the event.
