Berhampur: Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik filed his nomination papers from Hinjili constituency on Wednesday for the upcoming Assembly elections as official candidate of the Biju Janata Dal (BJD).
Patnaik, who happens to be the president of BJD, filed the nomination papers for the fifth term from Hinjili. Patnaik represents Hinjili constituency and has been winning successive Assembly elections since 2000. . The Chief Minister is seeking re-election for the fifth consecutive term.
Accompanied by the almost all the BJD leader of the Ganjam district and candidates, including party’s Aska Lok Sabha candidate and SHG leader Pramila Bisoi, Patnaik reached the Sub-Collector office at Chhatrapur at around 11 am and submitted nomination papers before the Returning Officer (RO).
Before filing his nomination papers, Patnaik offered prayer at Taratarini Temple, presiding deity of Ganjam.
Hinjili goes to the polls on April 18 in the second phase for which Gazette notification was issued on Tuesday.
For the first time, Patnaik will contest the assembly polls from two seats – Bijepur in Bargarh district in western Odisha and his home turf Hinjili in Ganjam district in southern Odisha.
Patnaik on Monday announced the first list of BJD candidates for nine of the 21 Lok Sabha and 54 of the 147 Assembly seats in the State.
