Bhubaneswar: Biju Janata Dal (BJD) president and Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik on Wednesday announced that his party will launch a Social Service Wing as a tribute to Mahatma Gandhi on his 150th birth anniversary.
“Mahatma Gandhi was a symbol of service and struggle. BJD will launch a Social Service Wing as a tribute to Mahatma Gandhi on his 150th birth anniversary,” announced Patnaik while launching party’s Jana Sampark Padayatra (Mass public contact) here.
“It will focus on plantation and environment, blood donation and health assistance. Our objective would be to make Odisha clean and green and people of Odisha healthy,” said Patnaik.
The BJD organises its annual Jansampark padayatras from October 2 that continues till October 11, the birth anniversary of Jayaprakash Narayan. Patnaik launched the drive from the Ekamra-Bhubaneswar Assembly seat area.
For the first time, the BJP Odisha unit took out Gandhi Sankalp Yatra from October 2 to October 30.
