Bhubaneswar: Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik will not celebrate New Year on Wednesday in view of the death of his brother-in-law and renowned editor and publisher Sonny Mehta.
The Chief Minister appealed to party leaders, workers and well-wishers not to visit Naveen Niwas, his residence to wish him on the occasion of New Year.
Mehta, internationally acclaimed editor and publisher passed away on Monday. He was 77.
He was the editor-in-chief of Alfred A. Knopf and chairman of the Knopf Doubleday Publishing Group. He was the husband of renowned author Gita Mehta and son-in-law of Odisha’s former Chief Minister Biju Patnaik.
In a condolence message Naveen said, “I am deeply grieved by the passing away of my brother in law Sonny Mehta (Husband of my sister Gita Mehta). He was one of the world’s best editors and an extremely civilized person. May his soul rest in peace.”
Mehta was the publisher who has worked on former United States President Barack Obama and former United Kingdom Prime Minister Tony Blair’s bestselling books.
