Bhubaneswar: The medical student of Phulbani undergoing treatment at SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack after returning from coronavirus-affected China have tested negative for the infection, said Director Medical Education and Training (DMET) Dr CBK Mohanty on Tuesday.
“The samples taken from the suspected Coronavirus infected medical student of Phulbani has tested negative. So far six out of the total seven samples sent from Odisha for lab test at National Institute of Virology in Pune have been found to be negative,” informed Mohanty.
On Sunday, the four samples from Odisha, which were sent to NIV for novel coronavirus, tested negative. The result of one sample is still awaited.
In the fresh case, the youth had voluntarily admitted himself to the Phulbani District Headquarters Hospital (DHH) in Phulbani after developing symptoms similar to those being displayed by coronavirus patients.
Later, the 26-year-old student of Southwest Medical University in the Sichuan province of China, who had returned home from China on January 12, was referred to SCB from the DHH.
Meanwhile, another woman medical student from the State, on her return from virus-hit China was also admitted to the SCB for flu-like symptoms.
On Monday, health professionals received hands-on training on collecting swabs and blood samples from patients suspected to be infected by the novel coronavirus during a day-long training for doctors, laboratory technicians, microbiologists of different Government and private hospitals at ICMR – Regional Medical Research Centre here. Currently, testing and confirmation of the virus is available only at NIV, Pune.
On the other hand, the Health and Family Welfare Department has also released helpline people. People can dial 0674-2390466/9439994857 to clear any doubts regarding the deadly virus.
